Wire, Crimp and Terminal Testing
Many sectors of manufacturing industry make extensive use of crimped electrical connectors. Such crimped joints are often key components within quality-critical, or even safety-critical, applications. A particularly effective technique for the routine evaluation of both the quality of crimping tools and individual crimped joints is to make use of a tensile test system based upon a force gauge, motorized test stand and specially-designed gripping fixtures.

The rotational crimp recepticle shown, when used in conjunction with a Dillon Advanced Force Gauge, a SnapShot test stand and a cable cam grip also shown, is suitable for testing to the requirements of MIL-T-7928G, MIL-STD-1344A and British BS5G178 Part 1. The rotating crimp receptacle can accept eight cable sizes from 1.5mm to 5mm. The budget-priced SnapShot has a load capacity of 1000 Newtons, and a speed range of 12.5 to 500mm/min, which easily encompasses the 25 to 50 mm/min value usually specified for this type of ‘pull-off’ testing.
