Automotive Pedal Push-out Test Specification
The customer specified a system which would
quickly and repeatably test the push-out force of
plastic joints on a car accelerator pedal.
The gripping fixture needed to be designed for use
with a variety of pedal sizes/forms, and be easy to
load by the operator.
Solution
The force required to break the plastic joint rose
quite quickly and break occurred instantly.
Therefore the 1200 Hz data-aquisition speed of the
AFG is critical in capturing accurately the maximum
compressive force. Since the force rises so
quickly, it is not practical to rely on the operator
to observe the AFG display and stop the test stand
when approaching full-scale of the gauge (500N)
if a sample was particularly strong. Consequently
an Overload Protection Device set
to a slipping force of 400N is used in this system.
The TC² motorized test stand allows tests to be carried out
at constant speeds, ensuring optimum repeatability
of tests. For quick and easy loading of the different
pedals, the gripping fixture is mounted on
a single-axis slide table. Peak compression load
is downloaded to a computer for
storage of results.
